Test Drive Unlimited II

This second release from the Test Drive Unlimited series by Atari and Eden Games offers a most exciting experience of driving a selection of the most luxurious cars of the modern world and living the relevant lifestyle. Players are given islands of Ibiza and Oahu to explore, race, earn money as well as to customize their experience.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is truly a completionist’s dream. It has more than 650 challenges, about 100 cars and a lot of exiting hidden items all over the map for the player to discover. The game starts with the player finding oneself on Ibiza working as a lowly parking valet that is pulled from the job to race on a reality TV show competition along with seven other contestants. The player will have to prove how daring he/she is and earn money as going through a series of challenges and races.

The various events of the competition require driving licenses of various classes, which the player needs to earn. And during the whole while every single activity of the player will be accompanied with overly positive chatter, starting from minor ones to driving instructions from people around that act as best friends. When first pulled from the valet job, the player has nearly thirty thousand dollars in the bank – this is the money to buy their first classic car (probably Ford, Lotus or Lancia).

Players will earn points through four categories of: discovery, competition, social and collection. To earn still more points players need to buy clothes and cars, win races, make friends with other online players, and map out thousands of miles of road of the islands. To make the whole driving experience easier and remove the consequences from poor driving Test Drive Unlimited is almost completely devoid of damage. Thus, driving head-on into another vehicle may cause them some minor breaks such as that of a lost bumper or scraped paint, while the only setback for the driver is a speed change.

Or: driving into a wall at 200mph will cause only a few seconds’ delay instead of taking the car and the player out of a race. What really makes Test Drive Unlimited 2 outstanding is the developers’ unconditional love of the automobile. The player can browse showrooms and examine the full interiors of the available most amazing cars, opening doors and windows. Every detail of a car is lovingly recreated and inspires respect and awe.
