ilomilo
In this platform game players advance through the levels and in the story by solving puzzles on their way to the constant goal, which is that of meeting each other. These thimble-shaped ilo and milo are best friends and meet every day for a cup of tea with cakes, but the strangeness of the world make them meet every day in different, bizarre places.
From this moment the puzzles start, and the player needs to do all the sorts of different things to solve the problems of constant gaps and obstacles, which the blocky world of ilomilo abounds in. Getting started is as easy as it could be with a lot of tips and hints all along the ways as well as with a lot of helpful characters that show how to use the game.
The game has both single and co-op 2player modes and is generally designed so that ilo and milo can be controlled only successively, in turns, at different times. In the single player mode ilo and milo are located in separate spots of the play area, which consists of multi-colored blocks in the sky (falling of one of such blocks won’t mean death to any of the game characters). If the character cannot get to a destination because of a couple of missing blocks, it means that way is impassable.
There is also no chance of falling off the end of this world as there is no “end” to it. The game is very easy to control, using a few colored buttons: if milo cannot get anywhere near ilo, the player switches control to ilo and moves it towards milo. There are a lot of items throughout the game to collect and store in the Gallery. These items add to the player’s achievements. Stored in this Gallery may be pictures, music and memories.
The entire story is nicely broken into chapters as a children’s book series, with levels standing for chapters. It is amazing how much effort and thought was invested into this seemingly little but extremely cute game. What regards the multiplayer mode of ilomilo, it is the same as the single player mode with the only difference being that ilo and milo can work only at a time.
Both these modes are basically the same, except that in single player mode the player can easily and quickly switch between the two characters. Overall this irresistibly cute game provides most interesting and fun gameplay that may appeal even to those, who normally don’t like this kind of games.
